Good morning my people, and firstly let me welcome all the new members to the R Kane Fan page. I hope you stay for a while and enjoy the ride that is my eclectic world. I know I haven’t blogged for a bit, but I do have a good excuse. I was out of town all last week on vacation. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram (and may I shamelessly plug myself here) then you know I finally took a proper vacation with my daughter in the great city of New Orleans. It was a great trip, unspoiled by anything, that was till I saw the news last night. Once again, we’re subjected to the horror of gun violence by two men who have no regard for anything or anyone else but themselves. My prayers go out to the man whose life was taken way too early, to the innocent bystanders who were injured, and to the city which captivated me while I was there.
I am truly sorry for your loss.
And the pain is only deeper because I spent time on those streets of the French Quarter. From the moment, I walked down Toulouse to Jackson Square I was lost in the culture and the atmosphere of the French Quarter. And it only grew as I took the bus tour around St. Charles and Lafayette, seeing the uniqueness that is New Orleans. Of course I got to partake in the great cuisine, from Creole to Southern, and it was all so good. If you get the chance to go New Orleans, you need to jump all over that offer, with both feet and both hands. People will tell you it’s ‘Dirty’ or ‘Old’, and yeah it is, but that’s what I love about the place. New Orleans, especially the French Quarter, is a city which isn’t in a rush to forget it’s heritage or past. You can keep your cities which have been made over by modernization, places where the new has bulldozed the old, where new skyscrapers without a visible defect crowd out the old flawed houses filled with memories. No, these people of New Orleans hold it tightly this culture and past of theirs, so much so that the people who live there have formed their own state of being. It’s why they call it the ‘Big Easy’, and its why I’ll fine my way back there again, enjoying the old and the past that is New Orleans.
So, that’s enough from me for now. I’m going to try out a new schedule for a bit, a blog entry on Monday and Friday Mornings while in between I’ll keep up the posts on Instagram and Twitter. One more time, please if you can, go and follow me on either platform. I hope everyone has a great week and I will see you around.
